Flippa Niche Site Update

Real Passive Income through  Niche Websites

Way back in June 2016 I bought my first website on Flippa.com.  This website is monetized through Amazon Affiliates and has mostly been on autopilot.  I experimented a little bit with buying links from a PBN (private blog network) which didn’t seem to help my search rankings at all.  I also spent about $100 on Textbroker to have some new articles created.  The articles were solid but haven’t really made too much of an impact on the traffic either.

So with those mini experiments not producing any measurable results, I have stopped all spending on this website and I’m letting it coast on autopilot.  This means I add no content, I do no marketing, and I pay no attention to it.  Part of the reason for this decisions it that the website is very, very niche.  It is focused on one specific product and the domain name matches that so an example would be something like www.digitalalarmclocks.com.  It’s going to be pretty hard to expand outside of that niche and it’s going to be difficult (at least for me) to come up with any type of compelling social media content that would drive any traffic.

Earnings to Date

It’s been 7 months since I bought this website and I’ve made $420.17 so far.  Between the PBN costs and the articles I paid for, my net earnings are probably close to $0 which is why I’m going to stop spending money on this site and let it cruise for a while before I decide to invest any more money into it.

The first website is www.appalachiantrail.com and the listing can be found here.  The person that owns this website right now is not doing a good job of monetizing it AT ALL.  People that go backpacking love to buy expensive gear.  I’d know since I am one of them 🙂  Backpackers will spend hundreds of dollars on equipment just to shave a few ounces off of their pack weight and this is doubly true for people hiking the Appalachian trail since they’ll be carrying this stuff on their backs for about 6 months.

Off the top of my head, I would create some lists of gear for hikers and put it right on the front page.  Backpacks, tens, sleeping bags, sleeping pads, shoes, clothes, food, etc.  There are so many possibilities for this site that you could use to increase the earnings.

The other website is www.excelzoom.com and the listing is here.  I added this to my watch list yesterday and today it’s showing that it sold for $3.5k so I guess I was too slow 🙂  Again, this is another website that is undermonetized right now.  The real money here would be creating your own product like an e-book or a video training course and selling that.  Unfortunately since I have a full time job I don’t really have time to create this type of content so I’m going to pass on this one for now.[/fusion_text][/one_full]

  1. This is some great stuff, thanks for sharing! I came across Flippa a few weeks ago, but couldn’t pull the trigger. Props to you for taking the dive!

    1. Thanks! I’ve actually added on another site I was able to pick up for just $500. I’d highly recommend looking for something at a lower price range to get started and learn the ropes.
